Marshall McLuhan's Tetrad Analysis of the Television

Television enhancement:
When we see television medium, the revolution from 1800 till now is fascinating. It was more focused on family programs, which brought families together. This medium is not only used for family and entertainment, but also for advertising purposes. It helped many businesses and firms to grow there brand awareness. The programs are not only limited to one city, it started to cross borders and entered the global market. It is a medium for one to many. Now television is affordable for most of the consumers. Television changed it shapes as well, from the bulky look it is not available in sleek look in almost every store.

Television Retrieval:
The only thing I would say which has been lost is the essence of story books, now kids don’t get to read or listen the stories from there grand parents. Instead they have TV for them, kids sit and with no effort gets to listen the refurnished meaning of the stories, Saturday morning cartoons and much more has been introduced, when we compare it from 1800’s .Now TV is not only about news, or channels of the country you are living inn. The idea of Dish is introduced; where one can watch hundreds of channel of there own country/language.

Television Reversal:
Now with the presence of internet, cell phone, it will be hard for Television medium to keep up with this race of “who will attract audience the most”. Today’s generation deals with internet, where as in 1800’s people preferred sitting with families and watch TV at home. However older generation, still would prefer to have an access of TV (even now) as they are not that tech- savvy. But to target younger generation it will be hard for TV to attract them towards this medium, or TV has to become more portable.

Television Obsolescence:
The loss of “Family time” traditionally watching television with family was considered a fun time. With today’s technology and the affordability, of TV most of the kids have TV in there rooms. No one really sits together and watch/discuss the programs, learn same values, morals etc. Television also has impacted the radio company; it diverted many radio consumers to this medium as it was available on daily basis at anytime of the day.
